The suspect in an alleged sexual battery and sexual assault last week was arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to a UCPD crime alert.

At about 6 p.m. on the night of April 25, an 18-year-old woman was at her mail box when she was allegedly touched by the suspect, Shamsher Shigh, a delivery person not affiliated with the university. Shigh then left the room when someone else walked in, the alert states.

At a later date in the week, the victim confronted Shigh in the same mail room, where he allegedly attempted sexual assault. The victim fled from the mail room and was not injured, the alert states.

Shigh was arrested yesterday afternoon at 4:28 p.m. at UCPD, according to UCPD spokesperson Lt. Alex Yao.

Yao said Shigh was then taken to the Berkeley Jail Facility for processing.

According to the alert, UCPD also believes that the suspect has followed women while driving his van - described as a white panel van with a dark blue "OnTrac" delivery service sticker on the back door - on Southside.
