Six years ago, the Cal men's golf team won its only national title.

Two days ago, it finally claimed another national tournament berth after finishing in a three-way tie for third in the NCAA San Diego Regional.

Shooting 300 in the final round at the par-72, 7,360-yard Carlton Oaks Golf Club in Santee, Calif., the No. 27 Bears kept pace with 26th-ranked Tennessee and 15th-ranked UNLV at 22-over par.

Cal tied No. 9 Oregon briefly on Saturday before dropping away from the Regional champions.

Freshman Michael Weaver paced the Bears with a one-over-par performance to place eighth individually, four strokes behind champion Nick Delio of Cal State Northridge.

Eric Mina, who won the Cal's second-ever Pac-10 individual championship, tied for 39th place.

The NCAA Championship will start on June 1 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
