The Cal women's golf team sits at third out of 16 teams after the first day of the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational at Almaden Golf and Country Club in San Jose, Calif.

Two of the three par-72 rounds were played yesterday. The teams will tee off today at 1 p.m. because of their long day yesterday.

The team score of 301 in the first round put the Bears in third, and their identical score of 301 in the second round held them at third.

Cal weathered the rain storms and hail better than their opponents by posting the same score while most of the other teams in the 16-squad field could not keep the same pace.

At 26-over, Cal ranks behind host San Jose State (19-over) and UC Davis (25-over).

Sophomores Joanne Lee and Emily Childs led the way for Cal with scores of 149, with identical rounds of 74 and 75 for the first and second rounds, respectively. Both continue to improve on their already strong spring seasons. Four of the Bears' five golfers finished the day in the top-20.

Recently, Cal has been heating up. The Bears took second in the Peg Barnard Invite in mid-February and third at the Wildcat Invite.
