Raquel Kops-Jones claimed the title of the 2002 ITA Northwest Regionals, topping No. 16 Alice Barnes of Stanford, 7-6, 3-6, 6-1, in the final match Sunday.

The victory in Palo Alto gives Kops-Jones an automatic bid to the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships in Farmers Branch, Texas Nov. 7-10.

The junior defeated top-seeded Erin Burdette of Stanford 6-4, 6-1 in the quarterfinals. Kops-Jones then got past teammate and No. 7 seed Christina Fusano 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals.

"We know each others' weaknesses," Kops-Jones said of facing her doubles partner in the semifinals. "It was just a matter of execution."

The No. 2 seeded doubles team of Kops-Jones and Fusano was unable to execute, falling to No. 3 Claire Carter and Darija Klaic of Washington 8-6 in the semifinals. The pair advanced by defeating No. 8 Barnes and Story Tweedie-Yates of Stanford, 8-5.
