If The Heuristic Squelch feels they have the right to say horrendous comments such as "You're just an unathletic Filipino working for minimum wage - what are you gonna do about it?" the publication should first understand what it is saying ("ASUC Condemns Published Racist" Sept. 29).

Throughout history, the power countries have dominated the minority nations. We minorities have come to the U.S. to seek opportunities that the U.S. has taken away from us in our own homeland.

Minimum wage? Many immigrants are forced to work these hours because they do not have the language capacity to climb the ladder of opportunities as much as fluent English speakers from four-year universities.

I am sorry that the Filipinos have worked so hard to feed their children so that other generations can succeed in this country. I am sorry that our parents cannot speak as fluently as your American-born parents. I am sorry that we do not meet your expectations as members of this society.

But I am sorry for you because you do not know that you are the ones taking our land, our governments and our lives while you sit pretty typing in your air-conditioned computer room with brandname clothes and full meals. I am sorry that this is the only thing you know and that you do not understand how hard others work in order to achieve in this society. I am sorry that you will never know what it is to start from the very bottom and work your way up.

But I am not sorry for being who I am and for what I represent. We are a people that have gone through hell and back and have not lost any of our hope. We keep striving, whether as airport employees or gas station workers. And neither your words, nor your closed-minded ego will stop us. For we are striving and we will achieve.
