UCPD officers are looking for one or more suspects involved in separate incidents of sexual battery and sexual assault that took place within hours of each other late Thursday night and early Friday morning.

In the first incident, a female UC Berkeley student was sexually battered when a man grabbed her inappropriately at approximately 10:50 p.m. on the east side of the Valley Life Sciences Building, according to a UCPD crime alert detailing the incident. The suspect fled southbound from the scene, and the student was not hurt.

The suspect in this case is described in the crime alert as a male in his late 20s of a medium build, about 5 feet 6 inches tall with blond or light brown hair, an unshaven face and what the victim described as bad teeth. At the time of the incident he was wearing a red and white stripe knitted wool jacket with a hood.

In the second incident, another female student was walking northbound through Haviland Grove at about 12:30 a.m. when she was surprised from behind by the suspect, who allegedly robbed her and then forced her to engage in a sexual act before running away northbound from the scene.

This suspect was described as a thin male in his 20s, about 5 feet 7 inches tall, with short brown hair and an unshaven face. At the time of the incident he was wearing blue denim overalls and a green sweatshirt.

In both cases, officers from UCPD responded to the scene after the victims reported the attacks, but were not able to apprehend any suspects.

Due to the relative proximity of the incidents and the similarities between the descriptions of the suspects, UCPD Lt. Alex Yao said that they are not ruling out the possibility that the two suspects could in fact be the same man.
