Iranian officials set a second session date in the trial of three UC Berkeley graduates for May 11, The Associated Press reported today.
Shane Bauer and Josh Fattal pleaded not guilty during the first session in February while Bauer's fiancee Sarah Shourd - who was released on $500,000 bail last September after discovering a lump in her breast - pleaded not guilty in absentia to accusations of espionage.
The three had been hiking near the Iran-Iraq border in July 2009 when they were seized by Iranian police. The hikers and their supporters have maintained that they were not spying and that if they crossed the border, it was by mistake.
Though Shourd was released, Fattal and Bauer have remained detained in an Iranian prison.
In a June 2010, The Nation magazine reported that witnesses actually saw the three captured on the Iraq side of the border.
According to The Associated Press, the charges for spying could result in a maximum of 10 years in prison if they are convicted.
