UCPD is searching for a man who allegedly indecently exposed himself to a minor in University Village in Albany Tuesday evening.

Around 7:15 p.m., a young girl noticed a man standing outside her bedroom window exposing his genitals. The girl alerted her mother, but the man had disappeared by the time she arrived. The girl's father searched the area near their residence for the suspect but could not find him and called the department. UCPD officers were also unable to locate the suspect, according to a UCPD crime alert.

"UCPD is actively investigating this case," said UCPD Lt. Alex Yao. "We are planning on increasing police patrolling (in the village) and are talking to local community members."

Residential and Student Services Program Marketing Communications Director Marty Takimoto said most campus housing units are locked facilities, but added that University Village is an exception.

"Family housing - like University Village - resembles a suburban neighborhood," Takimoto said. "Non-UC affiliated people can walk through the area. It's very challenging to provide 24/7 security for a large, open area like that."

He added that village staff have worked on educating residents about safety measures in light of robberies that occurred earlier this year. On Feb. 14, a male UC Berkeley student and his wife woke up to the sound of rattling blinds as a burglar allegedly stole $1,910 of their property.

"Certainly there are preventative measures the community can take," Yao said. "We encourage people to exercise neighborhood awareness and report any suspicious activity to UCPD immediately."

According to the crime alert, the suspect was described as having short, brown, curly hair and possibly wearing gray or brown clothing.
