UCPD officers arrested Brendan Kussman, former manager at the Bear's Lair Pub, on suspicion of sexual battery Thursday after he allegedly fondled and attempted digital penetration of a female UC Berkeley student Jan. 27.

The incident allegedly occurred between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. at the pub in Lower Sproul Plaza where the victim was also an employee, according to UCPD Capt. Margo Bennett. About two weeks after the incident, the victim reported the crime to the department.

Kussman, 27, resigned from the Bear's Lair on Feb. 1, according to Bennett.

"My understanding is that they had just met on that day," Bennett said. "He told us he was worried he was going to be fired. He said he had kissed multiple employees, one of whom was the victim."

Kussman was released from the Berkeley Police Department jail facility on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse in Oakland.

The case is still under investigation as UCPD looks for possible additional victims, Bennett said.

This was not the first time Kussman has been arrested. While visiting his family in Glendale on Dec. 22, Kussman was arrested after he allegedly stole 10 nutcracker statues in the downtown business district, according to Glendale Police Department Sgt. Tom Lorenz.

The statues were recovered shortly after, and the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence, according to Shiara Davila-Morales, public information officer for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
