Berkeley Police Department officers responded to an attempted strong arm robbery on Southside early Sunday morning, where one of two victims suffered minor injuries.
At approximately 3:10 a.m., two victims - one male and one female - were walking eastbound on the 2700 block of Bancroft Way when they were approached by two male suspects, who then proceeded to physically assault the male victim. The male victim then ran to a nearby porch and was followed by the two suspects. When he began to fight back, the suspects fled and headed west on Bancroft, according to a UCPD crime alert detailing the incident.
Meanwhile, the female victim flagged down a nearby pedestrian, who then called 911 and began to pursue the suspects to a nearby parking garage. The suspects were last seen driving in a dark sedan westbound on Bancroft, according to the alert.
Although nothing was stolen, the male victim reported hearing the suspects mention "taking his things," according to Berkeley police Sgt. Mary Kusmiss.
"The city averages between four to eight robberies per week throughout the city," Kusmiss said in an e-mail.
The male victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Berkeley Fire Department paramedics.
The two male suspects were described as being in their early 20s, 6 feet tall and weighing about 150 pounds, with medium builds, black hair and brown eyes. They were both wearing black hoodies and black jeans.
