The Cal rugby team defeated both Utah State and Wyoming on Friday at Sam Boyd Stadium in Las Vegas.

The Bears (12-0) held each team to one try apiece, and Wyoming also managed a conversion. Cal outscored the two teams by a combined 206-12.

Coach Jack Clark's squad first took the pitch against Utah State (0-1), and logged eight tries in the first half. While the Aggies avoided the first-half shutout with a late unconverted try by wing Joe York, Utah State was held scoreless in the second half.

In a game started mostly by reserves, sophomores Josh Tucker and Jose Pena each scored two tries in the second half en route to the 99-5 victory.

The matinee against Wyoming (0-1) featured a more regular starting lineup with sophomore center Seamus Kelly earning a hat trick in the first half. The Bears prevailed 107-7.

After Kelly's second try of the day in the 10th minute, Cal suffered its longest scoring drought of the half five minutes. Senior flanker Tom Rooke then punched it in to give Cal a 24-0 lead.

Senior wing Blaine Scully also notched two in the half, and senior scrumhalf James Bailes converted six of 10.

It was not until the 52nd minute that the Cowboys got on the board with a try from lock Leo Ferguson.

Sophomore lock Brendan Daly and match-day captain Derek Asbun each chipped in two tries over the two halves.

The Bears defeated Air Force 90-0 today at the same venue.
