A two-alarm fire in a Southside apartment building, located at 2241 Durant Ave., left none injured Wednesday evening, though the fire damaged two individual units in the 24-unit building.

The first responding engine from the Berkeley Fire Department arrived at the scene around 5:10 p.m., four minutes after the call was received, and within 20 minutes, firefighters contained the blaze that started in a first floor apartment on the Ellsworth Street side of the building, according to Sabina Imrie, the department's assistant fire chief for special operations.

Imrie said the fire caused some damage to the neighboring apartment, though a damage estimate is not yet available.

Though the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, UC Berkeley sophomore David Liu, who lives in the building, said he evacuated his apartment after noticing what he believed to be electrical smoke.
