The Cal rugby team decimated Chico State, 95-5, on Saturday afternoon at Treasure Island's San Francisco Gaelic Athletic Association.

The Bears (9-0) managed 15 tries, 13 of which came from different players. Senior James Bailes, who had the conversion responsibilities through the first 44 minutes, went 6-for-10 on the day. Junior flyhalf Alex Aronson took over for Bailes, and successfully converted four of his five attempts.

Senior wing Blaine Scully broke two tackles to capitalize on a Chico turnover early and put Cal on the board in the second minute. Cal hung 55 on the Wildcats (1-1) in the first half, including a try by match-day captain Derek Asbun to end the half. Asbun opened the second period of play with another try before coach Jack Clark pulled his starters.

Chico State's opportunities to score were few and far between, and the Wildcats only managed to avoid the shutout by a 75th minute try by Tony Joyce. Mike Keane, Bailes and Aronson's counterpart for Chico State, missed two almost identical penalty kicks wide left, as well as the conversion following Joyce's try.

While the Bears were not as dominant in the second half, they still put up 40 points to the delight of the strong Cal contigent that trekked to San Francisco for the match. Along with Asbun, center Charles Smith posted two tries one in the 50th minute and one in the 70th.
