When the Cal gymnastics team found out that 2011 would be the last year their program would exist at Berkeley, it swore to go out with a national title.

Last Friday was a good start.

The No. 4 Bears stunned top-ranked Stanford at the Cardinal's Burnham Pavilion with a 349.650-348.700 win. Although the hosts held the lead, 234.900-231.400, after winning three of the first four events. Cal took the next two to claim the victory.

U.S. national team member Glen Ishino clinched the all-around with a score of 90.300, and also led the Bears to a pommel horse win with 14.750 and on the parallel bars with 15.55. He was the only gymnast to break 15 on the parallel bars.

Stanford won the floor to open its night, and also won vault and rings.

The two squads, which are the only Division I programs on the West Coast, meet again Saturday night at Stanford.
