Graffiti containing derogatory remarks against Muslim and Jewish people was found on the UC Berkeley campus and reported to UCPD Friday in what police determined to be another hate crime on campus.

According to UCPD Lt. Alex Yao, the graffiti appeared in the unisex bathroom on the second floor of Eshleman Hall sometime between last Wednesday and the Friday it was discovered. The graffiti, written in black marker on the wall above the toilet, had been removed as of Tuesday, but traces of the statements remained visible.

One of the statements read, "All Muslims suck dick." The second was too faded to read, but the words "my dick" were visible. Yao confirmed that it was a derogatory statement toward Jewish people.

Yao said he cannot assume that there is a pattern to the recent hate crimes on campus, although similar incidents have recently occurred.

"Certainly in the last few weeks we've seen a few incidents of these hateful acts and crimes on campus," Yao said. "However, at this point it would be premature to determine that they are related to each other or if there's an emerging pattern."
