She came off the right side, soared high into the air with plenty of hang-time and slammed the ball down for the kill. No, it wasn't scoring machines Tarah Murrey or Correy Johnson.

It was 5-foot-11 senior setter Carli Lloyd, who recorded five kills for a 1.000 hitting percentage in the No. 10 Cal volleyball team's 3-0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-16) win over UC Davis on Friday night at Haas Pavilion.

Lloyd wasn't just scoring, though. The Bears' second all-time assist leader was all over the court. She was at the net, fortifying the interior defense with three block assists. She was on the floor, diving for nine digs to keep the Aggies (3-3) from scoring. And, of course, she was in the air, setting 32 near-perfect passes to her teammates for easy kills.

Ten of those assists were to Johnson, the sophomore middle hitter, who shot a ridiculous .526 hitting percentage. The 6-foot-4 Florida native added three block assists, helping the Bears (5-0) hold UC Davis to a .142 hitting percentage. The Aggies didn't exactly help themselves, as they registered 27 errors (six of those from the service line).

Neither squad seemed to get into extended offensive grooves, none lasting more than a few points. But Cal did everything just a little bit better--a few more kills, a few more blocks and a few less errors.

But the difference was Lloyd.

After all, it's not every day you see a decorated senior dash to the bench risking injury and save a ball ready to land beside, or maybe even on a woman's laptop. The laptop fortunately didn't fall to the ground.

Neither did Lloyd's pass.
