SAN FRANCISCO - View the live blog at our news blog, Notes From The Field.

A year after they voted to implement a controversial faculty furlough plan in response to a series of unprecedented drops in state funding, the UC Board of Regents's Wednesday meeting will largely center around the long-lasting effects those state cuts - including $637 million in the 2009-10 fiscal year alone - have had on the 10 campus system and what changes are in store.

A presentation detailing the drop in the number of California residents enrolling in the UC this fall, a bold plan to save $500 million in administrative costs and updates from UC Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law Dean, Christopher Edley, on the progress of the UC's online education pilot program are just some of the items being discussed today.

On top of that the Student Regent-Designate nominee Alfredo Mireles, Jr. will go before the full board for confirmation, current designate Jesse Cheng will become a voting member and Jesse Bernal will end his two-year term.
