Graduating from an institution as vibrant as UC Berkeley yields a certain checklist of things to do for the last time, like pulling an all-nighter in the Stacks or admiring the sun reflecting off the bay.

Yet as soon as we enjoy our last hurrahs, we're confronted with a whole new world of "firsts" - jobs, insurance policies, car payments. And no one taught us how to deal with this stuff (unless that happened in the 8 a.m. lecture we never attended).

So for at least a few years, we're in an awkward limbo. We feel the urge to party with our friends until 3:30 a.m., but we still have to go to work at 9. We haven't met the love of our lives, but we can't just hook up on Friday night anymore. All of life is at our fingertips, but we don't have the money or the maturity to do anything about it.

It's a daunting time to enter the real world, to be sure, but what better place to prepare than at UC Berkeley? For the two of us, the past four years have been spent witnessing some truly absurd moments ranging from tree-sits to presidential elections. No matter how many times we put stories on paper, we always find ourselves heading out to find some more.

The real world, we hear, is pretty strange. But we take pride in knowing it can't get much stranger than this place. Thanks, UC Berkeley, for always challenging us to write outside the lines.
