Strike Continues Thursday As Regents Set to Vote on Fee Increases

LOS ANGELES--UCPD officers use tasers in an attempt to subdue protesters.

1:20 p.m.

Protesters sing hymns as they wait near the building.

1:16 p.m.

Abut 200 protesters are chanting "Open the door" as they rally near the Architecture and Engineering building.

12:54 p.m.

UCPD on bikes were standing by as protesters marched to Giannini Hall to request a meeting with Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost George Breslauer.

12:43 p.m.

UC Board of Regents passes 32 percent student fee increase for resident undergraduates at their meeting at UCLA as 600 protesters rallied outside the meeting.


OAKLAND--About five people are picketing outside the headquarters of the UC Office of the President on Franklin Street.

8:34 a.m.

A group of about 30 union members marched in a circle on the south entrance of campus near the corner of Bancroft Way and Telegraph Avenue, holding picket signs and chanting "What do we want? Contracts. When do want them? Now." Drivers of passing cars who honked their horns were greeted by cheers from the picketers.

8:10 a.m.

The number of strikers at West Gate remained about the same.

7:36 a.m.

About 10 strikers stood near the West Gate entrance of UC Berkeley near the intersection of Oxford and Center streets, holding union picket signs and handing out literature to passers-by.
