New Berkeley Police Chief Chosen, Pending Approval

In a closed session Tuesday evening, the Berkeley City Council chose Michael Meehan to be the next chief of the Berkeley Police Department, but his appointment must be approved by council vote at its next public meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10.
Meehan is a captain with the Seattle Police Department.
Captain Eric Gustafson is currently the interim chief of the Berkeley Police Department, after former Chief Douglas Hambleton retired in late September.
