The Cal men's golf team blistered through the Meadow Club Golf Course in Fairfax, Calif., at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational on Monday and currently leads the event at 23-under par through 36 holes.

The Bears played consistent, aggressive golf, capitalizing on their length off the tee and sinking clutch birdie putts.

Junior Stephen Hale leads the entire field at 10-under, with brilliant rounds of 64 and 68. Freshman Michael Weaver sits in seventh place overall after carding rounds of 69 and 68.

Eric Mina, recently named Pac-10 Player of the Month, was 1-over in his first round but found his groove to finish with a 4-under round of 67.

Chad Vivolo shot a 2-under 69 in his first round, but struggled in his second round, shooting a 3-over 74. James Core, the final member of the Bears' lineup, shot a 76 in round one, but revived his second round with a 68.

After the first round of play it appeared Oregon was in control, with all five of its players shooting under par in the 60s. But round two was a completely different story, as Cal quickly grabbed hold of the lead.

The Bears remain five strokes ahead of the Ducks and 11 shots ahead of Oregon State.

Cal tees off Tuesday in hopes of securing its second victory of the fall season.
