A man carrying a trench coat, armed with a note, robbed a Downtown bank last night, police said.

The robber made off with an unknown amount of cash after robbing Bank of America on the 2100 block of Shattuck Avenue shortly before 6 p.m., said Berkeley police Officer Mary Kusmiss.

With a trench coat wrapped around one of his arms-perhaps concealing a weapon-the robber gave a teller a note, Kusmiss said.

Police stopped a possible suspect nearby shortly after the robbery, but it was not known if he was arrested.
