Three Residents Arrested in Connection With Modesto Shooting

Three Berkeley residents were arrested Sept. 25 in connection with the fatal August shooting of a Modesto resident.

A total of six people, including the victim's wife, were arrested because police say they were involved in the fatal shooting of Karl Johnson, 39, of Modesto.

Berkeley residents Carol Johnson, 51, and Dasheme Hosley, 30, were arrested in Modesto and charged with murder, according to a statement from the Modesto Police Department. Johnson was also arrested on charges of conspiracy.

Carol Laverne Johnson was the wife of Karl Johnson, said Modesto police Lt. Ron Cloward.

Deleon Hosley, 28, also a Berkeley resident, was arrested the same day in El Sobrante on charges of conspiracy and parole violation, police said.

In coordination with the local law enforcement agencies, Modesto police departments executed numerous search warrants Thursday in Berkeley, Hayward, San Leandro and Oakland.

Cloward said he could not elaborate on the circumstances of the shooting or the arrests because the homicide was still under investigation.

Johnson, shot early in the morning on Aug. 30, was declared dead at the hospital, police said.
