The following are the preliminary 2011 ASUC election results as announced at Thursday evening's tabulation.

According to the Elections Council, 44.7 percent of undergraduates and 5 percent of graduate students voted, with 91 percent of all voters voting online. The turnout was 11,478 people - the second highest voter turnout in the last decade, second only to last year,

In the election, voters rank candidates in order of preference. After the calculation of the first rank votes, the votes that would go to those who received the least number of votes are redistributed to whoever the voter had ranked as their second choice. This redistribution continues until there is a clear winner.

According to ASUC officials, once a candidate reaches quota - which is some number over half of the total votes - the election tabulator will not calculate any more votes for that candidate. This is because even if another candidate were to receive all the other votes, they would not defeat the candidate who reaches quota.
