Ben An's doesn't quite match up to Tiger Woods' on-course resume, but Cal men's golf team will likely be thrilled anyway when he makes his debut in blue and gold.
The freshman, who won the U.S. Amateur a year ago, lost to Stanford's David Chung in on Saturday the tournament seminfinals in University Place, Wash. Woods, who won three consecutive titles beginning in 1994, was the last to achieve the feat.
An defeated Cal sophomore Max Homa a round earlier at Chambers Bay, but shot a double bogey on the 18th hole.
Oklahoma State's Peter Uihlein beat Chung for the title yesterday.
The Bears start their fall season Sept. 17 at the Olympia Fields Illini Invitational.
