Police released the identities of three suspects arrested in connection with the early Saturday morning stabbing of a UC Berkeley fraternity member on Monday.

Carlos Guzman, 22, Fernando Ramos-Hernandez, 21, and Christian Woodward, 21, were arrested the night of the conflict, police said in a statement.

The incident began when a group, including the suspects, was asked to leave a party at the Kappa Sigma fraternity. They were unaffiliated with the fraternity.

Upon leaving the party, the group encountered three males and one female at Channing Way and Piedmont Avenue, according to police. As an argument between the groups became heated, the suspects allegedly brandished knives.

During the altercation, an individual was stabbed in the stomach, said Berkeley police Sgt. Patricia Delaluna.

"(The victim) turned around and he said he got stabbed," said Julia Gache, a Mills College freshman who witnessed the incident. "I (said) 'you're kidding,' and he lifted his shirt and blood poured out."

After fleeing the scene, three suspects were apprehended by officers at College Avenue and Parker Street, police said.

The victim sustained non-life-threatening wounds, undergoing surgery for them at Highland Hospital in Oakland.

Police have not released the victim's name and his family has asked that it not be printed out of concern for his safety.
